Midtown Greens
Midtown
A Historical Sketch

Within the Midtown neighborhood lays the oldest gravestone in Grand Rapids. This historical gravestone belongs to Andrew Haldane, who died in 1838 at the age of 25, and rests in the Fulton Street Cemetery. The cemetery is the oldest public cemetery in the city, with the first 6 acres being purchased on July 9, 1838 by the Trustees of the Village of Grand Rapids for $300. Also resting here are the gravestones of John Ball and many Civil War soldiers.
