Bleckley, David, A.B., M.P.A.
Research Coordinator, Community Research Institute
David Bleckley is Research Coordinator for the Community Research Institute. Some of his primary roles at CRI are data collection, data analysis, and research surrounding community indicators. David has worked on several of CRI's signature projects including the Michigan Nonprofit Compensation and Benefit Survey and the Greater Grand Rapids Community Survey.
Church, Joshua, B.S., M.S.
Web Developer, Community Research Institute
Joshua is a Web Developer at CRI. He keeps himself busy with maintaining the CRI website as well as developing various web applications for non-profit organizations. He works closely with CRI researchers and the clients to insure product satisfaction. Prior to coming to CRI Joshua attended Ferris State University where he received his Masters in Information Systems Management. While at Ferris he worked at the Volunteer Center where he built a system to connect students with volunteering opportunities and included management tools for staff. Before leaving he helped develop a system to record Co-Curricular Transcripts. He also worked at the Graduate Programs as a web developer and tech support.

Edwards, James, Ph.D.
Interim Director
James Edwards is Interim Director of the Community Research Institute for the Dorothy A. Johnson Center at Grand Valley State University and an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Grand Valley State University. He earned his doctorate in Social Work from Michigan State University. Prior to moving into higher education, James was the program director of the network 180 Access Center in Kent County. Additionally, he has direct service experience in Child welfare and Juvenile Justice. Edwards’ recent research has centered on human service agencies’ use of technology; an evaluation of employee attitudes on using technology in a northern Michigan human service agency; a qualitative study of computer mediated intimate relationship development; an Environmental Scan of Mental Health, Developmental Disability and Substance Use service need in Kent County; and an evaluation of a Teen Abstinence program. His dissertation work is examined how women in recovery use technology and the role of the treatment provider in supporting client technology use.
Feliz Santana, Eleibny, BSc., MSc.
Database & System Security Administrator
Eleibny is the Database and System Security Administrator at CRI. She is in charge of managing efficient and secure access to the data. She received her Bachelor degree of Software engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and her Master degree of Distributed and Multimedia Information Systems from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. She has previous experience in the manufacturing, telecommunication and government fields.

Hwang, Sungsoo, Ph.D.
Post-Doctoral Fellow, Community Research Institute
Sungsoo Hwang is a post-doctoral fellow at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy and the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration, Grand Valley State University. He received his Ph.D. in public affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a project team member for the Pittsburgh Neighborhood and Community Information System. He conducts research in the areas of collaborative governance with an emphasis on utilizing information technology such as Geographical Information Systems. He is a member of International Working Group on Online Consultation and Public Policy Making, funded by National Science Foundation. He has published information technology related articles in several venues including Government Information Quarterly.
Maciak, TJ, B.S.
Programmer, Community Research Institute
TJ is a programmer and administrator of free and open source based technologies. He overlooks a virtual server which provides web utilities such as a wiki for the Community Research Institute, a surveying system based off of phpSurveyor, a mySql database and various other open source based applications that CRI utilizes every now and then. He also works in the GIS arena with mapserver, openlayers and quantum GIS desktop application. His favorite programming languages are Java and Perl and he is a big fan of the Eclipse IDE. In 1999 TJ earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business from Grand Valley State University.
Nanzer, Pat, M.P.A.
Associate Director for Special Projects, Community Research Institute
In her role as Associate Director for Special Projects, Pat Nanzer develops the Philanthropy library collection and the archives, manages GVSU faculty service-learning grants, and conducts nonprofit compensation and benefit research. Ms. Nanzer has a Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Grand Valley State University. She has previous work experience in human resources, accounting, and office management and volunteer experience in public school library, PTA, and fundraising.

GIS Specialist, Community Research Institute
Jeremy Pyne is a GIS Specialist for CRI where his specialty is demographic mapping and community based research. He has earned his Masters of Public Administration and Bachelors of Science in Geography and Planning degrees from Grand Valley State University - Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Rensink, Jenna, BSW
Research Associate
Jenna Rensink is a research associate for the Community Research Institute. She manages the research and scholarly agenda for CRI working closely with Dr. Fred DeJong. Jenna works with statistical analysis (SPSS), data base management, project direction, and functions on the team for the production of peer-reviewed publications. Before joining the Johnson Center in 2008, she worked as a project manager and research associate on various community projects. With her Bachelor's in Social Work and Bachelor of Arts in French from Calvin College, Jenna plans to work towards a joint Master's degree in Social Work and Public Administration at GVSU.
Rotondaro, Gustavo, B.A., MUPPD
Associate Director and GIS Manager, Community Research Institute
Gustavo Rotondaro is the Associate Director and GIS Manager at CRI. In that capacity, he is responsible for data partnerships, management and distribution of the Community Information System data content. He also coordinates the development of interactive tools for community analysis, data display, and dissemination. Prior to joining CRI, Rotondaro worked for the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization in Cleveland, Ohio and for the Northern Ohio Data and Information Services (NODIS) at the Urban Center at Cleveland State University conducting GIS analysis, data distribution, and map production. Gustavo received his Masters of Urban Planning Design and Development (MUPDD) from the Maxime Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University and Geographic Information Systems certifications in MapInfo and ESRI products.

I am working as an undergraduate assistant for the Community Research Institute while pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems. After college, I hope to help businesses improve their organization and collaboration techniques using Web 2.0 technology. Currently I am enjoying working on the development of a wiki-based website using Web 2.0 applications.

I'm an undergraduate research assistant at CRI, with a Statistics Major and Math Minor at GVSU. I assist with research projects, including writing and statistical output.
